On April 7 2017, dementia snatched the life of Maureen J Bell. From the time she was diagnosed to when she died was less than five years. In the photo above, she was 63 and enjoying with her husband Andy, their Wedding Anniversary. Friend and family who knew her said she loved life, fashion, looking stunning, music and singing and most of all, writing. She had an incredible memory up until when dementia took hold, and started penning her story, around 2008, that would later become ‘Just a Bunch of Bluebells’.
It was a story that had to be told, for it is her own story of her extraordinary life as a child during World War Two. Together with an equally incredible mother, and a stoic, resolute father, this is an family drama that will hold the reader captivated.
Maureen was nearing the end of writing her book, when vascular dementia had albeit torn her apart, but still she’d struggle to remember and write. She finished her book, just before dementia took her completely.
Maureen’s daughter took the book, rewrote parts, and worked with an editor bring the book to life. Mindblowing Books published ‘Bluebells’ on September 21st, 2019, and in memory of Maureen, fifty percent of income from the book goes equally to Dementia UK and the Alzheimer’s Society.
